Monday 26 April
A night dedicated to singer-songwriter-filmmaker-artist
DAVID BYRNE, including screenings of his breathtaking films,
True Stories (1986) and Ilé Aiyé (The House Of Life) (1989).
Matinee 6.30PM – 8.00PM
TRUE STORIES David Byrne’s directoral debut, set in
the fictional town of Virgil, Texas, which looks at life of
everyday townsfolk. Louis Fyne (John Goodman) is a man
desperate to get married; the lazy woman is named so for
her refusal to leave bed; and Earl Culver lives with a wife
he no longer talks to. Littered with beautiful oddities and
iconic imagery, True Stories feels an artful pre-cursor to
Lynch’s Twin Peaks.
Main Event 8.00PM - 2.00AM
Ille Aiye (HOUSE OF LIFE), which is an impressionistic
approach in exploring the Candombe religion and its
people, found in the Bahia region of Brazil. Building a
cultural collage of music, dance and archival footage
Byrne takes us on a visceral journey of a culture that has
pulsating and evocative music at its core.
Following the screenings, a live performance by Dalston’s
mischievous four-piece DJANGO DJANGO (http://www.
myspace.com/djangotime), who are headlining this
years Stag & Dagger festival will perform Talking Heads
inspired music.
More bands and DJ’s to be confirmed.
Shoreditch’s Village Underground is the perfect venue
to play host to this fantastic event. Set up by a Berlin
and NYC collective of filmmakers, music promoters, VJs
and artistes, this former Victorian warehouse is now a
state-of-the-art music and theatre venue, and its vaulted
brick arches will provide the ideal backdrop to Visionäre’s
inaugural audiovisual showcase.
From house to arthouse, from prog rock to music doc,
Visionäre’s debut event of film magic and audio artistry
will be an event not to be missed.
