It’s with great sadness that Village Underground will be temporarily closed until further notice, due to recent world events. We have been following the UK Government advice on dealing with COVID-19, and we feel that pausing all programming and events right now is essential for audiences’ and staff’s health and safety. This has not been an easy decision to make, and as a venue we are facing very dark and difficult times ahead – much like the rest of the arts and music community.

We’re working hard to reschedule all postponed events for when we are good to reopen. You will receive all the information you need from your ticket provider, including postponed events, rescheduled dates and information on how to get refunds if you cannot attend the rescheduled event. Once we have more information we will also update our social channels and website accordingly.

Village Underground is over a decade old now, and as an independent arts venue we’d be nothing without our audience, staff members, performers and partners. We work with more than 1,500 artists performing to more than 150,000 people who visit from across London, the UK and the world each year – all of whom are facing a financial crisis. Our focus right now is on protecting the future of the venue, doing our best to help the livelihoods of our staff, and also protecting the future arts and music culture in London. We ask that if you’re healthy and able to, that you continue to use your voice on social media and keep spreading the word of independent businesses. With this in mind we would like to share a couple of links to petitions that call for the government to support vulnerable industries and workers:

 – The Music Venue Trust’s petition for Boris Johnson to take immediate action to protect Britain’s Grassroots Music Venues https://www.change.org/p/boris-johnson-cancel-the-festival-of-britain-save-britain-s-grassroots-culture/

 – Petition for the government to offer economic assistance to the events industry during COVID-19 https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/301186/signatures/new

– Petition to include self-employed in statutory sick pay during Coronavirus https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/300336

We have also set up a fundraising page for Village Underground and EartH for those who are able to donate. Any donation – large or small – will help our venues to continue to operate once this unpredictable period is over https://villageun.de/VUandEartH.

It’s also really important to look after yourself in these unprecedented times. For anyone struggling with mental health issues that may be escalated by this situation, we’d like to take this opportunity to direct you to this BBC article on how to protect your mental health during this time: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51873799

We hope to emerge stronger, and bring you even bigger parties when the time is right. Please remember to express love to one another, help others in these hard times and keep safe.
